HALIFAX – The Nova Scotia government says the most popular baby name in the province this year was Charlotte. 

Other favourites in the top 10 list are Henry, William, Noah, Jack and Violet. 

Also among the most popular names this year were Theodore, Wesley, Lainey, Ava and Lily.

The province says that as of Dec. 30, there were 7,184 registered births in Nova Scotia in 2025 — up slightly from 7,154 births in 2024, when Theodore was the most popular name. 

Nova Scotia began formally registering births on Aug. 1, 1864, when the most popular names in the province were Mary and John.

In New Brunswick, the provincial government says the top two names of the year were Jack and Charlotte.

Other popular baby names in 2025 were Noah, William, Henry, Benjamin, Sophia, Violet, Olivia and Ellie.

Service New Brunswick says there were 5,699 births registered in the province from Jan. 1 to Dec. 16, down from 5,822 births registered in the same period the year prior.
