PRINCESS ANNE, Md. (AP) — Dorion Staples had 16 points to Maryland-Eastern Shore to a 66-49 victory over Morgan State on Saturday in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference opener.

Staples shot 4 for 9 (3 for 5 from 3-point range) and 5 of 6 from the free-throw line for the Hawks (5-13, 1-0). Joseph Locandro had 13 points and Zion Obanla scored 10 as the Hawks snapped a seven-game losing streak.

The Bears (3-12, 0-1) were led by Alfred Worrell Jr., who recorded 15 points and six rebounds. Rob Lawson added nine points and five assists.
