DOVER, Del. (AP) — Taj Thweatt had 13 points to help Coppin State hold on for 53-51 victory over Delaware State on Saturday in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference opener.

Thweatt went 5 of 7 from the field (3 for 4 from 3-point range) for the Eagles (3-15, 1-0). Nelson Lamizana added 10 points and five rebounds as the Eagles ended an eight-game losing streak.

Ponce James led the Hornets (5-11, 0-1) with 13 points and four steals. Miles Webb added 10 points and 15 rebounds, while Ademar Santos had nine points and six rebounds.
