Police in Barrie, Ont., say a mother has been charged with first-degree murder after her 10-year-old child was found dead on New Year’s Eve.
Police say they responded to a call for a well-being check at a house on Bayview Avenue near Little Avenue around 3 p.m. on Dec. 31.
They say a 10-year-old child was found dead inside the home.
The child’s mother, a 47-year-old woman, was taken to a local hospital.
Police say that after the woman was cleared medically, she was charged with first-degree murder on Tuesday.
The crime unit continues to investigate, and police have previously said there’s no risk to public safety.
