WINNIPEG – Winnipeg police have charged a man with manslaughter after a fire at a home that killed one and sent others to hospital.

Fire crews were called Thursday to a two-and-a-half-storey home in the city’s West Broadway neighbourhood, where they had to rescue one person.

Others were able to get out on their own.

A firefighter and one person from the home were taken to hospital in stable condition.

Another person in the home, 68-year-old Gregory George Thomas, was brought to hospital in critical condition and later died.

Investigators believe the fire was set on purpose.

Michael Patrick Gordon, who is 40, faces one count of manslaughter and two counts of arson and has been detained in custody.
