TORONTO – One person is dead after a highrise apartment fire in Toronto’s north end. 

Police say emergency crews were called to the area of Firgrove Crescent and Needle Firway shortly after noon on Tuesday.

Toronto Fire Services say the fire occurred on the 12th floor of the building and was contained.

Officials say a person was pulled from the unit by firefighters and handed over to paramedics.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The investigation to determine the cause and origin of the fire is ongoing.
