YELLOWKNIFE – Mounties say a 13-year-old student has been arrested after a Yellowknife school reported there was a photo on social media of him posing with a gun.

RCMP say the boy was not at the high school at the time and was taken into custody at home, where an imitation pistol was seized.

The school was locked down as a precaution.

Police did not say if there would be charges.

It’s the latest example of schools being on high alert, after six people were shot and killed last week at a school in Tumbler Ridge, B.C.

Mounties in Alberta have said they’ve seen an uptick in weapons calls and school lockdowns since the shooting.

One expert has said it’s not surprising, as emotions are strong after a mass shooting like at Tumbler Ridge.
