TORONTO – Police say a Hamilton man wanted for the shooting deaths of two people nearly a decade ago has been arrested in Mexico.
Hamilton police say Daniel Mario Tomassetti has been taken into custody and efforts are underway to extradite him to Canada.
Police had issued Canada-wide arrest warrants for Tomassetti and Michael Cudmore in 2018, in connection to the murders of Angelo Musitano and Mila Barberi and the attempted murder of Saverio Serrano the year before.
Investigators said at the time Musitano was gunned down in his driveway in Hamilton, while Barberi was shot dead and Serrano, her boyfriend, suffered gunshot wounds in a Vaughan parking lot.
They said Barberi wasn’t the intended target of the Vaughan shooting.
Tomassetti is facing two counts of first-degree murder, one count of attempted murder, and three counts of conspiracy to commit murder.
“At this time, we are not in a position to provide additional details beyond what has already been shared,” Hamilton police said in a statement Wednesday.
“Further information, including details related to his arrest will be released when it is appropriate to do so.”
In 2020, police said Cudmore was found dead in a vehicle on a roadside in Mexico.
