AJAX – Police say a man has died after a targeted incident that was initially reported as a break-in at a home in Ajax, Ont.

Durham Region police say they were called around 12:40 a.m. today for a break-and-enter in progress at a home in the area of Harwood Avenue North and Taunton Road East.

When officers arrived at the home, they found a man suffering from traumatic injuries who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say they conducted an extensive search with the help of the K9 unit but couldn’t find the two suspects.

Investigators say they believe it was a targeted incident and there are currently no concerns for public safety.

They say police will remain in the area as the investigation continues.
