MONTREAL LAKE – A man has pleaded guilty to arson causing damage to property for sparking a wildfire in northern Saskatchewan.
Jason Halkett, who is 29, entered the guilty plea earlier this month.
The fire started in the Weyakwin area, northeast of Saskatoon, and caused damage to structures and forced several communities to evacuate.
The fire also burned more than 200,000 hectares of land.
Halkett, who is from La Ronge, Sask., is scheduled to appear at a sentencing hearing on May 7 in Montreal Lake court.
The offence carries a sentence of up to 14 years imprisonment.
