WHITECOURT – A wildfire northwest of Edmonton that forced about 140 people from their homes is no longer classified as out of control.

Alberta Wildfire says the fire near the town of Whitecourt is being held, meaning it’s not expected to grow beyond its current boundaries.

It says the fire is about 51 hectares in size.

An evacuation order was issued Monday for residents in part of Woodlands County, south of Whitecourt.

The county has said one residence was lost because of the fire.

It says re-entry would likely happen over several days after the area is deemed safe.
