OTTAWA – Ottawa Fire Services says one person is dead and 10 people have been displaced after a townhouse fire spread to another unit.

Officials say emergency crews responded to the fire on Russell Road shortly before 11 p.m. Thursday.

They say crews arrived within five minutes and found a townhouse fully engulfed in flames, which spread to another unit.

Officials say four occupants got out, but one person was unable to escape and died in the fire.

They say the fire was declared under control at midnight and a total of 10 tenants have been displaced.

Fire officials and Ottawa police are investigating the origin and cause of the fire.
