VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA, CANADA – A man has been charged in a vehicle ramming in Vancouver that left the rider of a mobility scooter critically injured and destroyed a police cruiser.

Vancouver police say the 34-year-old suspect is facing four counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm in the incident Friday in Vancouver’s West End.

Police say a vehicle drove erratically through a section of Nelson Park, hitting trees and other obstacles and striking a senior on a scooter, who remains in serious condition.

They say the vehicle then rammed a police vehicle responding to the incident, destroying the cruiser, flipping the other vehicle and sending two officers to hospital for treatment.

Police say the suspect has had “extensive interactions with police” in both B.C. and Saskatchewan, and he remains in custody.

The two officers were treated and released on the same day of the crash, while a fourth person the driver allegedly attempted to hit escaped uninjured.

Note to readers:This is a corrected story. A previous version quoted Vancouver police as saying the suspect is facing four counts of assault causing bodily harm. In fact, the man is facing four counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm.
