SHELLBROOK – An evacuation has been ordered in northern Saskatchewan due to a spreading wildfire.

The Rural Municipality of Shellbrook No. 493 says in a social media post that the order affects people south of the town of Shellbrook, but not the town itself.

People who live a kilometre-and-a-half west and eight kilometres east of Shellbrook, and are south of Highway 3, must evacuate immediately.

An update from the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency says the Lobstick wildfire is fast moving and is heading northwest, and that people in its path need to leave without delay.

The agency says people should use an oil service road to leave and to register at the Elks Hall in Shellbrook.

It says the fire is approximately 19,000 hectares in size, which it notes is about the size of Regina.
