WILLIAMS LAKE – The Cariboo Regional District has issued an evacuation alert for properties due an out of control wildfire.

The notice says the alert covers 22 parcels and nearly 180 square kilometres of land as the so-called Swede Creek Wildfire burns near Comstock Lake, about 100 kilometres southwest of Prince George.

It says the evacuation alert was issued to give residents time to prepare to evacuate should they be ordered to leave.

The BC Wildfire Service says the blaze, which was discovered on Monday, is burning out of control and was estimated at about 13 square kilometres in size as of Tuesday afternoon.

The service says the cause of the wildfire is under investigation.

The blaze is among about 17 active fires and one of two that are burning out of control in the province.
