VICTORIA – A union representing more than 600 workers at a renowned hotel in Victoria says they have ratified a new collective agreement.

Unifor Local 4276 says the deal includes a 17.75 per cent wage hike and gains in vacation, sick days and other benefits.

A union spokesperson says 91 per cent of voting members supported the four-year deal.

Workers served strike notice last week and could have been off the job by Saturday morning.

Unifor said Saturday that a tentative agreement was reached after negotiations that lasted well into the night.

The union represents workers in housekeeping, maintenance and other departments at the Empress, a luxury hotel that opened in 1908 on Victoria’s harbourfront.
