MONTREAL – Quebec’s police watchdog says two people have died after their vehicle went into the water during an attempted police interception in Coteau-du-lac, southwest of Montreal.
The Bureau des enquêtes indépendantes says the crash happened just after 1 a.m. after Quebec provincial police officers spotted a vehicle whose owner was allegedly in breach of conditions.
The BEI news release says the officers tried to intercept the vehicle and driver.
Two minutes later, the driver lost control and the vehicle went into the water.
The BEI says two people were taken from the vehicle with serious injuries and brought to hospital, where they were declared dead.
The watchdog is investigating the deaths with the help of Montreal police, and are calling on witnesses to contact them.
