CALGARY – A driver has died after allegedly fleeing from police for about a day before being involved in a police shooting on a busy Calgary freeway.
Calgary police say the driver had been going the wrong way on one-way streets, speeding through red lights and is believed to have been part of multiple crashes.
Officers used their vehicles to stop the driver on a section of Deerfoot Trail on Sunday.
Police say one officer shot his service gun during a confrontation while officers tried to arrest the driver but no one else was injured.
Alberta’s police watchdog was called in on Sunday to investigate the shooting.
The driver went to hospital in life-threatening condition.
