VALLEYVIEW – An Alberta Mountie is facing a criminal charge of assault with a weapon.
The province’s police watchdog agency says the case involves a Valleyview RCMP officer and is tied to an incident in November of 2023.
The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team says it laid the charge following advice from prosecutors.
The agency did not release any details on the case, including the circumstances of the alleged assault and whether it occurred while the officer was on duty.
Const. Ovidiu Haynes was arrested and charged earlier this week and released on conditions.
Haynes is due back in court in Valleyview on Aug. 6.
