VANCOUVER – A man has been charged with assault with a weapon after he allegedly hit a woman on the head with a piece of wood about the size of a baseball bat at a beach in Vancouver.
Police say they were called to Kitsilano Beach on Sunday after witnesses reported seeing a man pick up a piece of lumber and hit a woman from behind.
They say the woman was walking along the beach with her partner when the attack occurred.
The woman’s companion intervened, and some witnesses followed the suspect and called 911.
Police say the man was arrested inside a dollar store near the beach minutes after the attack.
The victim was taken to hospital and is expected to recover.
