VANCOUVER – A man has been arrested in Vancouver for allegedly wielding a chainsaw in public and menacing bystanders.

Police say the incident happened Wednesday at about 7 p.m. in downtown Vancouver near Davie and Denman streets.

Investigators say the man was seen yelling obscenities near a coffee shop patio when he allegedly switched on an electric chainsaw.

He then allegedly began walking toward people on the street, prompting them to flee.

Officers arrived at the scene and arrested the man on nearby Beach Avenue, three minutes after the initial 911 call.

The 67-year-old man has now been charged with one count of weapon possession for a dangerous purpose.
