EDMONTON – Police in Edmonton say there has been a second death after a vehicle left the road, hit an apartment complex, severed a gas line and ignited a fireball.
Police say an 82-year-old woman previously unaccounted for after Monday night’s crash is dead, while a second unaccounted-for person is safe.
The victim was the wife of an 85 year-old man who died that night after jumping from a balcony trying to escape the blaze at the northside complex.
Six more went to hospital with injuries, including the 62-year-old driver.
Investigators are working to determine why the car left the road and hit the complex, which has retail shops at street level and apartments above.
The blaze left 35 people without a home.
