GRUNTHAL – Police say they have recovered the body of an 18-year-old Winnipeg man who drowned in a gravel pit in a rural area south of the city.
They say a group of friends were at the pit south of Grunthal in the Rural Municipality of Hanover on Sunday evening, when one attempted to swim across it.
The man made it about halfway before he disappeared under the water.
Officers and firefighters tried to locate the swimmer.
The RCMP’s underwater recovery team was later brought in and located the man’s body.
Police say they continue to investigate.
