WINNIPEG – Winnipeg police say a pellet-style gun was likely used to fire at an Islamic centre in what is being investigated as a possible hate-motivated attack.
Windows were damaged Wednesday night at the Rahma Islamic Centre in the northeast end of the city.
Police say the building was also damaged when two suspects later broke additional windows with an unknown object.
They say the suspects had been at the centre earlier in the evening and had shouted racist comments at patrons.
Investigators are treating the case as a potential hate-motivated crime and plan to increase police presence and patrols around the centre and other mosques in the area.
Police say they are also looking into a home in the area that also had its windows broken by what’s believed to be a pellet-style gun on the same night.
This report by The Canadian Press was first published July 31, 2026.
