CALGARY – Three adults and a child are dead after a car going the wrong way on a Calgary highway slammed into another vehicle on Sunday night.
Calgary’s fire department says it found two of three cars involved in the crash in flames after responding to a call for a serious collision just before 11 p.m. on a southwest highway.
Calgary police say they believe a 30-year-old man driving a southbound Mercedes-Benz in the wrong lane — with a woman and child in the passenger seats — crashed into a Subaru with one occupant, a 43-year-old man.
Police say both cars caught fire.
Then an SUV driven by a 52-year-old woman, with three youth as passengers, struck the Mercedes-Benz.
Fire responders say occupants of the Mercedes-Benz and the Subaru driver were pronounced dead at the scene after the flames were brought under control.
Police say all people in the SUV were taken to hospital, one with life-altering, non-life-threatening injuries.
They say investigators are looking into whether the Mercedes-Benz driver was impaired and driving at an excessive speed.
