OSHAWA – Ontario’s police watchdog says it’s investigating a man’s death after he refused to leave a home east of Toronto over the weekend.

The Special Investigations Unit says a woman called police late Sunday night to say an unwanted man was inside her Oshawa, Ont., home.

Officials say Durham Region police arrived to find the woman had left, but the 42-year-old man was still inside the home and would not communicate with officers.

The police watchdog says officers forced the door open and found the man “unwell.”

He was taken to a hospital where he died on Tuesday night.

The SIU says it has assigned three investigators and one forensic investigator to the case.
