VANCOUVER – Thunder and lightning were recorded over the skies of Metro Vancouver today with Environment Canada warning of thunderstorm in the region.

The weather forecast agency’s tracking map shows lightning in areas that stretch from Richmond and New Westminster to Burnaby and the North Shore since 6 a.m. PT.

It warns of possible gusts and hail across the region, and several videos posted to social media from Metro Vancouver showed pebble-sized hail peppering homes in the area.

Environment Canada says driving conditions across the areas of Metro Vancouver under the warning could also be difficult.

It encourages residents to take immediate cover if they see a thunderstorm approach to protect themselves from hail and possible flying debris.

Environment Canada had also issued a thunderstorm warning that at one time covered Burnaby, New Westminster, Coquitlam, Maple Ridge and the North Shore, although most have since been rescinded.
