TORONTO – Police say a man currently serving a sentence at a medium-security prison in Ontario has been charged with assaulting a fellow inmate.

Ontario Provincial Police say officers were called on July 11 to the Warkworth Institution in Brighton, 150 kilometres east of Toronto, about a matter involving two inmates.

They say one person was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say a 38-year-old man faces two assault charges, as well as one count each of possessing a weapon and uttering threats.

The accused is set to appear in court in October.

Police have not said why the accused is currently serving time.
