NACOGDOCHES, Texas (AP) — Gavin Rutherford rushed for two touchdowns and threw for 140 yards, Jaylen Jenkins also ran for a score, and Stephen F. Austin took down East Texas A&M 44-7 on Saturday night.
The Lumberjacks (2-0, 2-0 Southland), ranked 13th in the Stats Perform FCS Top 25, won their sixth straight home opener and 12th straight game since an 0-2 start in 2025.
After going three-and-out on their first drive, the Lumberjacks scored on their next three drives to take a 21-7 lead. They took advantage of an interception at the opposing 5-yard line, adding three more points before heading to the locker rooms.
Jenkins broke free for a 40-yard touchdown run early in the third quarter that extended the lead further, and the Lumberjacks got one more field goal before the end of the game.
Preston Alford led with 76 yards rushing on six carries, including a 51-yard dash, and Clayton Wayland reeled in all four of his targets for 46 yards.
Carlos Alvarado went 3-for-3 on field goals, connecting from 23, 26, and 37 yards.
For the Lions, Eric Rodriguez was 9-for-16 passing for 110 yards, a touchdown, and two interceptions.
