AKRON, Ohio (AP) — Cibastian Broughton passed for four touchdowns and Akron defeated Robert Morris 45-10 in its home opener Saturday.

Longtime Akron season ticket holder Marty Whims II helped call the plays on the first possession, but it ended when wide receiver Marcel Williams fumbled at the Colonials’ 37-yard line. David Johnson recovered the ball after Tasheen Howard and Jake Lopinto forced the fumble.

Broughton was 23-of-27 passing for 227 yards. The redshirt freshman completed his first 12 passes, including three touchdowns. Sean Patrick got the Zips on the board with a 41-yard catch midway through the first quarter while Elijah Alexander and Miles Burris also scored in the first half.

Alexander had five catches for 55 yards, including two scores. Jordan Gant rushed for 81 yards on 10 carries, including a TD.

The Zips (1-1) then scored on their next three possessions to take control of the game as they had a 21-10 lead at halftime.

Backup QB Brayden Roggow ran for a 15-yard TD in the fourth quarter.

Carson Haggard completed 19 of 28 passes for 179 yards for the Colonials (2-1). Galen Combs had nine receptions for 119 yards, including a 43-yard touchdown catch in the second quarter that tied the game at 7-all.
