CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Chris Parson threw three touchdown passes, two of them to Denver Harper, who also returned a punt for a score, and Austin Peay thumped Morehead State 63-7 on Saturday night.
Parson completed 12 of 15 passes for 260 yards for the Governors (2-1), ranked 15th in the Stats Perform FCS poll.
Harper caught a 72-yard touchdown pass from Parson on the Governors’ first play from scrimmage and finished with 124 yards on three catches. He ran a punt back 87 yards for a score right after hauling in a 31-yard scoring strike from Parson to help Austin Peay take a 49-7 lead into halftime.
Kaden Williams carried the ball just twice and turned them into 80- and 40-yard touchdowns. Matthew Wilson totaled 103 yards on five rushes as the Governors piled up 376 yards on the ground.
David Parsons threw a 16-yard touchdown pass to Riley Purcell at the end of an 11-play, 75-yard drive on the game’s opening possession and the Eagles (1-2) grabbed a 7-0 lead before being steamrolled.
Parsons finished with 121 yards on 13-for-21 passing after completing 6 of 8 for 60 yards on the Eagles’ first possession.
Isaiah Groves, Corey Richardson and Kelvin Perkins III all added short touchdown runs for Austin Peay.
