MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) — Keldric Luster threw three touchdown passes in the first half and Ball State defeated Stony Brook 41-17 on Saturday for the Cardinals’ fourth-straight home opening win.

The Cardinals (1-1) extended their prowess in hope openers, now having won 16 of the past 17 and five of six under coach Mike Uremovich.

Luster completed 27 of 32 passes for 256 yards and was intercepted once. TJ Horton gained 125 yards on the ground and the Cardinals had a total of 226 rushing yards, 482 total.

Jeremiah Coney had 89 yards rushing with two touchdowns and CJ Hester added 85 yards for the Seawolves (1-2).

Ball State led 21-3 at halftime after Luster’s touchdown passes of 3 yards to Tate Hoover, 23 yards to Jabari Smith and 23 yards to Jalen Bonds.

It was the first meeting between Ball State and Stony Brook, an FCS team that plays in the Coastal Athletic Association.
