PELICAN RAPIDS, MAN. – Police say a man in northern Manitoba was found dead last week in a suspected animal attack.
The 21-year-old man was found on a road in Sapotaweyak Cree Nation on Wednesday.
Police say an autopsy has determined the preliminary cause of death was from an animal attack, but the type of animal hasn’t been determined.
RCMP has notified Manitoba Conservation of the investigation and its findings.
The province says Manitoba Conservation’s predator attack team is still working to determine what kind of animal was involved, but says it has ruled out a bear attack.
The Sapotaweyak Cree Nation is about 600 kilometres north of Winnipeg.
This report by The Canadian Press was first published Sept. 14, 2026.
