RIVERTON, N.S. – A Nova Scotia man has been charged with sexual assault and other offences after police received a report alleging a teacher had assaulted a student at a pre-primary to Grade 8 school.
RCMP say the complaint came from Dr. W. A. MacLeod Consolidated School in Riverton, N.S., on Sept. 10.
Police say they have since identified victims of similar assaults during the 2026-27 school year.
Mounties say a 53-year-old man from Bible Hill, N.S., was charged yesterday with four counts of assault, two counts of assault by choking and assault with a weapon.
The accused has also been charged with sexual assault, sexual interference and administering a noxious substance.
Police say the local centre of education removed the man’s access to the school at the time of the original report and that there may be additional victims.
“You and your loved ones will be heard, supported and treated with respect,” Const. Daniel Ronaghan said in a statement. “We want you to know that you can reach out to discuss the right process, pace and resources.”
