OTTAWA – A man has been charged in two early morning stabbings in Ottawa that police believe to have been random attacks.

Police say the first attack took place just after 2:45 a.m. on Rideau Street near Sussex Drive.

They say a man stabbed a woman, who then got on an OC Transit bus to seek safety and received treatment.

Investigators say they received a report just after 3 a.m. that a man had been stabbed near Daly Avenue and Waller Street.

They say the suspect, a 42-year-old man from Ottawa, was arrested nearby and has been charged two counts each of attempted murder, aggravated assault and assault with a weapon, as well as other offences.

Police say both victims are in hospital and remain in life-threatening condition.
