VAUGHAN – Police in Vaughan, Ont., say they have identified a vehicle believed to have fatally struck a woman whose body was found by a passerby two days later.
York regional police say the woman, a live-in caregiver, was walking on Pine Valley Drive on her way to work around 8:30 p.m. on Oct. 4 when she was hit by a vehicle that then left the scene.
They say a passerby spotted a suitcase on the road belonging to the woman two days later and then found her in the grass.
Investigators say they have since obtained security video of the suspect vehicle, which they describe as a white Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van from 2020 to 2022.
They say footage shows the vehicle turning into the subdivision in the area of Ballantyne Road and Pine Valley Drive soon after the time when the woman is believed to have been hit.
Police say vehicle debris found at the scene has been confirmed to belong to a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van.
They say officers have not been able to find the vehicle and are asking anyone with information to reach out.
Police say anyone who helps a suspect by concealing, repairing or altering the vehicle could face charges.
