LAUSANNE, Switzerland (AP) — Helsinki will host track and field’s European Championships for a record fourth time in 2030.
The Finnish capital beat Brussels, the only other bidder, on Thursday.
The championships date to 1934 and Helsinki will have staged it more than any other city, having been the host in 1971, 1994 and 2012.
“This is a testament to Finland’s enduring passion and connection with athletics,” said Dobromir Karamarinov, president of European Athletics.
The 2030 event will take place in the Olympic Stadium, which reopened in 2020 after extensive renovation.
