Forget the killing of 73,000 seals. Harvesters should just bring them to The Gentle Barn.
Sure, the seals will have to be corralled aboard a freezer truck to Santa Clarita, Calif., but it will be worth it.
“The Gentle Barn is an incredible organization that rescues and rehabilitates animals and they need our help,” says Ellen DeGeneres, or so says the person responsible for her website.
It’s one of the many dance-worthy causes taken on by this talk-show host telling us how best to live in this amazing world.
Last week, Ellen, as she is affectionately known, made public her denunciation of the seal hunt, or, she discussed her disgust of the ill-informed information she was given.
“Seal hunting is one of the most atrocious and inhumane acts against animals allowed by any government,” she said. “Canada is allowing the slaughter of a record number of seals in their 2011 hunting season, which is going on right now. The seals are often younger than three months old.”
That’s right, she hauled out the Ouija Board and sent spiritual texts to Brigitte Bardot, seeking advice on how to proceed. Whether Bardot responds or not, someone should tell her that information about the baby seals is 20 years old. “This has to stop,” the website stated. “To my friends and fans in Canada: Please help put a stop to this. Follow the link below to make a donation and send the message that killing innocent animals is wrong.”
The link below? Yes, it is PETA, or People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, an organization not exactly known for its ethics.
So, another Hollywood celeb listens to another ill-informed organization and attacks the harvest.
The famous are often used to help raise that pot of exploitative cash and keep PETA well-fed through their members’ tasty vegan diets.
And the truth is, it’s perfectly OK to have differing opinions on the topic. The debate surrounding its financial ledger is a good one to have. Even the argument on whether or not the media attention surrounding it makes it worthwhile can be examined.
However, get off this baby-killing nonsense and fragile arguments that it’s not humane when there are a thousand abattoirs in your backyards. Enough already. When will the hypocrisy end? When the slaughterhouses shut down and those millions of cows and pigs are meeting their furry little ocean friends at The Gentle Garden?
