It’s not the kind of pre-game routine Fred Reid would recommend to anyone.

Bed-ridden with the flu and having missed three days of practice, Reid bounced back and churned out 148 yards and two touchdowns along the ground in Sunday’s 31-2 shellacking of the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

"I had to stay home and get rested up," said Reid. "But it helped in that I felt fresh out there. I felt like a new man out there.

"By Friday I started feeling better and I told the coaches I’d be ready to go and not to hold me back from playing. Now I’ve heard some comments from guys saying that maybe I should have the flu every week.

"But, believe me, I’m not going to sit out practice again. I’m over it. I’m feeling good."

Reid now has 806 yards along the ground through 10 games and bounced back after managing just 43 in the Labour Day Classic loss.

"We just executed some things we didn’t do well last week," said Reid. "Little things like picking a block off. The offensive line worked hard at correcting those things this week and it showed.

"This is a big win for us. Everybody had talked about us coming close all year long. We kept believing, kept working hard and now we’re gelling together. Now we believe we can make a good run down the stretch."

HURTS UPDATE: The  Bombers’ Brady Browne left the game in the second half with an apparent foot injury. He was spotted wearing a walking-boot on his right foot after the contest.

THE QB SAYS: "My team played great," said Bomber pivot Steven Jyles. "These guys played awesome. I give it to the defence, I give it to the O-line, Fred ran the ball very well. We took what the defence gave us on offence and the receivers made great plays. And our special teams weren’t bad either.

"We had a great team win and I told all the guys, ‘If we keep playing like that we’ll go a long ways this season. The guys are starting to understand the little things that it takes to win. As long as we keep being productive on offence and defence, we’re going to be a hard team to beat."

NUMBERS GAME: The Bomber victory stopped a six-game losing streak against the Riders dating back to the 2007 Grey Cup. As well, Winnipeg snapped a two-game Banjo Bowl skid against the Riders. The Bombers are 4-3 since the inception of the Labour Day Classic sequel in 2004.
