EDMONTON – The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have made Canadian Football League history – for all the wrong reasons.

The Bombers fell 16-13 to the Edmonton Eskimos in overtime in front of 32,192 fans at Commonwealth Stadium Saturday night, the eighth time this season they have lost a game by four points or less. And that, folks, is a new league record for frustration.

Winnipeg falls to 4-13 on the season while the Eskimos improve to 7-10 and keep their playoff hopes alive.

The Bombers had forced OT when Justin Palardy connected on a 26-yard field goal with no time remaining to tie the score at 10-10 and then hit a 37 yarder in extra time for a 13-10 lead. But in the Eskimos’ first possession of overtime running back Daniel Porter scored a 11-yard touchdown to give the Esks a win.

Winnipeg opened the scoring on a 38-yard field goal by Justin Palardy and missed out on a glorious chance to go up 11-0 but were stuffed on the Eskimo one-yard line when Bombers QB Joey Elliott couldn’t cross the goal line. The Bombers other turnover was on a similar play with Elliott nailed by Eskimo safety Elliott Richardson short of the first down.

The Eskimos tied the game at 4-4 with a Derek Schiavone field goal from 18 yards out just before the intermission with the two kickers hitting threes in the third quarter to provide the 7-7 score.

The Bombers have three interceptions of Eskimos QB Jared Zabransky, by Jonathan Hefney, Ian Logan and Jovon Johnson, but Zabransky has been able to move the ball with his legs and 93 yards along the ground.

Winnipeg is 4-13 and already eliminated from the CFL playoff picture while the Eskimos, 7-10, desperately need this in pursuit of third place in the West.
