The Winnipeg Thrashers won the 2011 Telus Cup national midget hockey championship today with a 3-1 victory over the London Jr. Knights in St. John’s, N.L.

The Thrashers became the first Winnipeg team to win the Telus Cup.

The Brandon Wheat Kings won it in 2004, while in 2008 the Thrashers won silver.

Connor Lockhart scored the game-winning goal in the third period and was named the player of the game for the Thrashers, while goaltender Teagan Sacher had a stellar performance in net, making 31 saves.

The Thrashers, outshot 32-18, also got goals from Justin Derlago and Corey Petrash.
