THE Winnipeg Blue Bombers will be without the services of long-snapper Chris Cvetkovic for at least the next two weeks.
Cvetkovic injured his calf during the first half of the Bombers’ 27-15 loss to the Montreal Alouettes Thursday night. A team spokesman reported Friday that it is unclear whether Cvetkovic will return in time for the Bombers’ regular-season opener July 1 in Hamilton.
With Cvetkovic out of the lineup Thursday, the Bombers pressed LB Pierre-Luc Labbe into snapping duties. Labbe came up short on a second-quarter snap to punter Mike Renaud, resulting in the Bombers turning the ball over on downs.
Cvetkovic tore his ACL in the second pre-season game of 2010 and missed the entire season.
Meanwhile, the Bombers say LB Henoc Muamba’s knee was being evaluated Friday but the club was hopeful the injury wasn’t serious.
Muamba — the first pick in this year’s CFL draft — sustained what head coach Paul LaPolice termed a “strained knee” during the first half Thursday. He left the game and did not return. The Bombers are expected to have more details on Muamba’s situation today.
