WINNIPEG — Tom Hoge of Fargo followed his Thursday 66 with a 67 today at Pine Ridge and holds the lead well into today’s second round of the Players Cup hosted by Jonathan Toews.
Hoge, 22, is playing just his third professional event. He was a senior this past season at Texas Christian University.
He also got into the Players Cup via the Monday qualifier at Elmhurst.
It’s believed that a Monday qualifier has never won a Canadian Tour event, at least since the tour organized into its current form in 1985.
After two rounds, Hoge’s nine-under total was one shot better than opening day front-runner Josh Habig, the tour winner here 2006.
Habig was 69 today.
Players were still on the course this afternoon but the best local player finished two rounds was Pine Ridge’s Rob McMillan, who shot 70 today and was at one-under through two days.
The cut will fall after today’s play to the low 60 players and ties.
The final pairing for Saturday’s Round 3 will be 1 p.m.
The winner will earn $32,000 and an invite to next week’s RBC Canadian Open in Vancouver.
