Tim Brown vs. opportunity

Winnipeg’s return game — both on punts and kickoffs — has slowed in recent weeks and starting field position for the offence is seemingly moving closer to the Bombers end zone, making things difficult for an inconsistent attack.

Which is where Brown comes in.

The diminutive 23-year-old will be returning kicks for Winnipeg Sunday, finally making his way back from a broken foot suffered in a spring workout. The Rutgers product hasn’t seen game action since the 2010 NFL pre-season and figures the foot is 95 per cent healthy.

Good enough, he says. “Stay focused: I haven’t played football in a while,” he said on what challenges he’ll face catching balls with 30,000-plus in the stands. “I’m a great football player… just let it show on the field.”

That confidence — not to mention his quickness — is what coach Paul LaPolice hopes to see, as well. “Tim is a guy who can make you miss in a phone booth,” he says.
