PRIOR to his MTS Centre concert tonight with Fred Turner and Paul Rodgers, iconic Winnipeg rocker Randy Bachman will sign copies of his new book, Vinyl Tap Stories at McNally Robinson, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Since 2005, the former Guess Who and Bachman-Turner Overdrive member has shared life and career stories through his CBC Radio program Randy’s Vinyl Tap; his book collects selected highlights.
Bachman, who’s earned over 120 gold and platinum album/singles awards worldwide, still writes songs every day. “As Neil [Young] has always said, ‘we are what we are and this is what we do. If we stop, it’s over.'”

Chancy’s debut novel, Spirit of Haiti, was shortlisted for the 2004 Commonwealth Prize for best first novel (Canada-Caribbean region). Born in Port-au-Prince and raised in Winnipeg, she now teaches English at the University of Cincinnati.

Woodward’s book is also a finalist for the 2010-2011 Amelia Frances Howard-Gibbon Illustrator’s Award. The Baillie winner will be announced Oct. 4.

That Pembina Crossing is one of the most spectacular Manitoba locations for fall colours is but one example of the “back country” knowledge in Manitoba Wild, of which Neepawa-based author Bill Stilwell will be signing copies at McNally Robinson on Oct. 1.
“We’re blessed with great landscapes and amazing waterways, like the Wanipigow River,” says the Manitoba born-and-raised Stilwell.
Stilwell won an Outdoor Writers of Canada Book Award for both Manitoba Wild and his 2006 book Manitoba Naturally. The former volume also won the Tourism Westman’s 2011 Product Development Award, sponsored by Travel Manitoba, in June.
Stilwell says his more “nature-oriented” guide goes hand-in-hand with Free Press reporter Bartley Kives’s A Daytripper’s Guide to Manitoba.
