Goalkeeper Serena Bredin of Winnipeg and Canada’s national women’s water polo team are representing Canada at the Holiday Cup in Los Alamitos, Calif. today through Sunday. It is an international tournament including world champion Greece, USA and Italy, the 2004 Olympic champion.

Team Canada will then head to Orange County for the FINA World League preliminary round tournament Feb. 20-22. The top two teams in that event qualify for the FINA World League Super Final on May 29-June 4 in Changshu, China.

Canada will also be participating in the Olympic qualifying tournament set for April 15-22 in Trieste, Italy.

“This is one of our last preparation opportunities against other international teams prior to the Olympic qualifier,” said Canada’s head coach Patrick Oaten in a statement. “We will take advantage of that to work with different line ups and players in varying roles and situations. We are going to take the trip one game at a time to ensure we maximize this opportunity.”
