The Winnipeg Jets have joined the NHL’s Hockey Fights Cancer initiative and will wear special-edition lavender jerseys during the pre-game warmup on Oct. 22.
Raffle tickets will be sold in the concourse at all seven Jets home games during the month of October for a chance to win one of the 35 lavender jerseys with all proceeds from the raffle going to the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation.
Also at the Oct. 22 game, as part of the initiative, the Jets’ rink boards and visual media at the MTS Centre will be converted to the lavender colour to raise awareness of the fight against cancer.
Hockey Fights Cancer lavender ties will be worn during the Oct. 22 game by all Jets coaches and broadcasters.
During the month of October, players will be wearing Hockey Fights Cancer decals on their helmets.
Fans can also participate, as the Jets Gear store will sell a variety of limited-edition Hockey Fights Cancer merchandise throughout the month of October. Proceeds from the items will go to CancerCare’s Pediatric Clinical Trials which funds 51 percent of the cost of trials for children with cancer in Manitoba.
Each of the NHL’s 30 teams will hold a Hockey Fights Cancer awareness night at a home game during the month of October.
