DETROIT — Hands up — who saw this coming?

That was the question of the night in the Winnipeg dressing room Tuesday as the once-floundering Jets recorded their third win in a row and fourth in five games with a 3-2 shootout victory over the Detroit Red Wings.

“I don’t know if you ever see a streak coming,” said Jets head coach Claude Noel. “You can see potentially the attitude of your team change or some cohesiveness starting to build the group. And then you’re hoping that maybe attaches itself to some good play…

“Our team, the way we are, we’ve got to have a lot of good players play their A-game in order to have success. And that’s what we’ve had more than anything this last little while — a lot of guys playing.”

Jets centre Bryan Little says he suspected awhile ago that some good things might be coming for his team. “I don’t know if I saw it coming, but I definitely saw us starting to play better. There were little signs.

“And I think we just had to make a decision whether we wanted to give ourselves a chance to get back into playoff position. Everyone’s playing so well in our division, we need as many points as we can get.”

Tuesday night’s win improved Winnipeg’s regular-season record to 9-9-2.

Noel said a shift in his team has occurred lately that has been subtle, but also unmistakable.

“It’s a matter of a lot of different things. I think we haven’t had passengers lately because the guys want to get this thing on the right track. I think our team has come closer together through some of the adversity we had before this little streak thing.

“And now it’s the confidence thing…You start feeling like you can win.”

Jets defenceman Zach Bogosian got his first goal of the season midway through the third period on a nice head fake in the high slot that left him nothing but net to shoot at.

“I think I faked myself out almost, too,” said Bogosian with a laugh.

“It felt nice to get that. I’d had some chances the last few games that just didn’t go in the net for me. Kind of bad luck.”
