Flip for fundraiser

Pancakes will be flipped and adults living with disabilities will be helped on Jan. 18. The Trailblazers Life Choices Parents/Caregiver Support Group is holding a flapjack fundraiser at the Applebee’s at the Grant Park Shopping Centre. The breakfast runs from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. and tickets cost $10. To order, call 204-257-0813.

Hit the trails

Sponsorship and registration is now open for the annual Ride for Rehab. The five-day snowmobile adventure, which helps the Children’s Rehabilitation Foundation, is being held from Feb. 5 to 9, with the machines going on trails in Minnesota and accommodations at the Grand Ely Lodge in Ely, Minn. Registration is $950 per person and includes accommodations, meals, trail pass, registration gift, and helping children living with special needs. Inmates help children

A group of inmates in the Winnipeg Remand Centre have produced a calendar to help children and families in the North End. The Inside Scoop Editorial Board, with help from the John Howard Society of Manitoba, has produced the 2014 calendar with artwork from incarcerated and former incarcerated artists. The calendars are on sale for pay-what-you-want, but the suggested donation is $5 to $10, with all proceeds going to benefit the Andrews Street Family Centre. Sponsor a musician

To get to Carnegie Hall a musician has to practise, but another way is to sponsor a musician with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra. The WSO is playing on the famous stage in New York City on May 8, and to help get there they have an Adopt-a-Musician campaign. Women-only workshops

Women can learn about the Canadian tax system and how to cope with anxiety at two free workshops being put on by the Fort Garry Women’s Resource Centre. Intro to basic concepts of the Canadian tax system is being held Jan. 14 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at 1150A Waverley St., while Anxiety: real, disabling and treatable is being held on Jan. 21 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. To pre-register at both women-only events, call 204-477-1123.

Help plan future

Community Living Manitoba, which helps people living with cognitive disabilities, is looking for help to keep it relevant. The organization is holding an all-day workshop at Canad Inns Polo Park on Jan. 21 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., to come up with a new framework to help it with its dream of making society inclusive. Light up to fight ALS

There’s still time to light up a Christmas tree to help people living with ALS. The annual Lite Up a Life Campaign, organized by the ALS Society of Manitoba, is continuing until Jan. 31. You can light three light bulbs on the holiday tree in front of the country’s only ALS House for $5, seven for $10, or a whole tree for $150. To help call the society at 204-831-1510.
