MOON ALERT: Avoid shopping or making important decisions from 4:40 a.m. until 9 a.m. After that the moon moves from Capricorn in to Aquarius.

ARIES (March 21-April 19)

Big changes are taking place at home. They are sudden and will liberate or free you from something. They could bring you good fortune by expanding your home or suddenly shifting you to a new home that feels bigger and richer.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20)

Your day-to-day world has had some sudden and significant changes recently that broadened your experience of life and brought some new people into your daily existence. These changes make you feel younger and more optimistic. In fact, you feel like you are more in the mainstream of things.

GEMINI (May 21-June 20)

Sudden changes, hopefully for the better, can affect your cash flow, your job, your earnings and your assets. For some it is a windfall; for others, it could be an opportunity to boost your earnings in the future. If this is not readily apparent to you, keep your eyes open.

CANCER (June 21-July 22)

The image you project out in the world is changing, in fact, quite suddenly. This could be demonstrated by your dress, your appearance and also how you choose to brand yourself in the eyes of others. You will look more affluent, whether this is the case or not.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22)

A number of sudden things have occurred that jiggle you spiritually or at a deep, inner level. It’s a shakeup that is not necessarily welcome, but it is a learning curve, and a necessary one. When this is finished, you will be wiser, and hey — wisdom is a good thing.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)

New friends and acquaintances have suddenly come into your life perhaps through groups, classes or clubs. Some of these acquaintances will bring you happiness and expand your knowledge library. Other acquaintances will encourage you to reach higher for more ambitious dreams.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)

Sudden opportunities to boost your reputation in the eyes of others or to get a promotion or explore opportunities to succeed in new ways are at hand for you. Some of these have happened and others will happen in the very near future. Be sure to stay tuned.

SCORPIO (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)

Unexpected opportunities to travel or explore avenues in publishing and the media or get further education and training are at hand. Act on these because your window of opportunity will be brief. Ready?

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)

An unexpected inheritance or gift from another source might have recently come to you or will come to you. Be on the lookout and keep your pockets open. You might also have an chance to get a loan or mortgage or a favour from someone. It will all happen fast.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)

Partnerships and close friendships have undergone some major changes for you recently and will continue to do so. For the most part, these changes are positive because they have released you from something and at the same time, introduced you to a bigger world.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)

Sudden and significant changes to your employment might be at hand. Consider these an opportunity to grow and expand. For some, it could be unexpected work-related travel, for others, it could mean working with someone from a different background or a different culture.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20)

Everything to do with romance, love affairs, vacations, the arts, sports and your relationship with children holds many changes right now. Some of them have happened recently and some are about to take place. Be flexible. Be open to these changes, but know that you have to act fast when they occur.

TODAY’S BIRTHDAY

Actor and comedian Jackie Gleason (1916-1987) shared your birthday. Because you are sensitively attuned to the feelings of others, no matter what you do, you arouse their emotions. It appears that you naturally know how to establish this important connection. You possess a quick wit, irony and talent, and you are highly individualistic. (Sometimes your criticisms are barbed.) Good news: this year might be one of the most powerful years of your life. Dream big!

Shoppers forced to evacuate after fire at St. Vital Walmart

Scott Billeck 2 minute read 10:53 AM CDT

A Walmart at St. Vital Centre was evacuated Monday night after a fire inside the store.

“We are thankful that all Walmart staff and visitors were evacuated safely, everyone was accounted for, and no one was injured,” the shopping centre said in a social media post. “St. Vital Centre continues to work closely with Walmart, the Winnipeg Police Service, and the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service to assist in any way we can.”

St. Vital Centre staff said Tuesday morning the Walmart store has not re-opened, and it did not know when it would.

The WFPS said in a news release emergency crews were called to a commercial building in the 1200 block of St. Mary’s Road just after 7 p.m. Monday. Firefighters quickly put out the fire after the building’s sprinkler system mostly extinguished the blaze before crews arrived.

‘Easy decision for me:’ longtime city councillor Chambers not seeking re-election

Joyanne Pursaga 2 minute read 10:56 AM CDT

Coun. Markus Chambers will not run for a third term on city council, instead stepping away to spend more time with his family.

On Tuesday, Chambers told reporters he won’t seek re-election in the St. Norbert-Seine River ward.

“This has actually been an easy decision for me. My family is growing. My son has announced that my wife and I will be grandparents in December. And other priorities… have emerged that require my undivided attention,” he said.

The councillor said health concerns played a key role in his decision to step away from political life, as his wife has battled cancer for two years.

Feasibility study planned for arena on former Kapyong Barracks site

Malak Abas 3 minute read Sunday, Jul. 5, 2026

A First Nations development group is hoping to pull in prospective sports teams with plans to build an arena in south Winnipeg.

The Treaty One Development Corp. is exploring the feasibility of a 6,000-person arena in Naawi-Oodena, the former Kapyong Barracks site, on the southeast side at Taylor Avenue and Kenaston Boulevard.

The hope is to give aspiring athletes a large space to practice, and possibly even bring a junior or professional sports team to Winnipeg, said chief development officer Cody Mercer, who listed the Western Hockey League or National Lacrosse League as examples.

“Not just working for Treaty One, but also in our membership of the seven communities, there’s a ton of athletes, and really we see that when they’re getting to that higher level of hockey or anything like that, they’re having to move away,” he said. “We thought this is an idea that we can try to bring (in) a team.”
